As our Director of Technical Product Management, you will lead a team of TPMs focused on Ancestry’s search, recommendations, and people graph and contribute both as a thought leader, and a hands-on TPM contributor, as needed. This role is responsible for the products that together work as the beating heart of Ancestry’s Family History products, helping to fuel the amazing research & delightful discoveries that our customers expect in subscribing to Ancestry.

With a team of 4 technical product managers, you will work closely with product, data science and our search, recommendations and people graph engineering teams to develop and optimize new algorithms that provide our customers with the most delightful and relevant search and personalized content discovery experience.  Ultimately your goal will be to ensure each time an Ancestry customer visits, they find compelling new content and learnings, relevant to their family stories and history. 

What you'll do

  • You will lead a team of TPMs in defining the technical strategy of our people graph as well as our search and recommendation services and then converting that strategy to a roadmap, then delivering it.
  • You will tackle challenging, complex problems that play a central role in how customers search and receive recommendations to create an industry leading research experience.
  • You’ll be responsible for the algorithms that power our search and recommendations services and partner with experts in personalization, machine learning, and ranking across product, engineering, and data science, to define innovative approaches to solve real customer challenges leveraging the power of Data, AI and ML.
  • In partnership with your colleagues, you’ll transform your strategy into a product that scales globally. This involves considering local customer needs, cultural nuance, and competitive environments to help our business grow and retain our loyal customer base.
  • You will translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences, and support coherent communications across a diverse range of stakeholders.

Who you are

  • Minimum 7+ years of TPM experience delivering highly successful and innovative consumer Internet or mobile data products coupled with a minimum of 3+ years of technical product leadership experience including hiring, managing, and developing technical product management teams.
  • You have a proven track record of building algorithm based products at scale (serving millions of customers) through strong partnerships with product, data science, and engineering.
  • A high bar across the board - for your own contributions, for the people you work with, and for the products you work on. You are data driven to the point of pulling the data you need to inform your decisions. Experience working with experimentation to assess the effectiveness of feature and algorithmic updates coupled with great design instincts.
  • Experience in software development, software architecture, data architecture, infrastructure, and integration for applications that are consumer facing.
  • Experience reading, analyzing, communicating, and writing API specifications and technical product documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Science, or equivalent work experience; Masters Degree in Computer Science preferred.
