Ancestry is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our team. Reporting to our Software Development Manager, you will join an impressive team of developers and product managers who have built some of the world's most compelling products, producing the world class software in two categories, family history and consumer genetic testing.


You will be focused on development of our category-leading Ancestry Genealogy product. You will be provided many opportunities for professional advancement and include experience writing RESTful web services using Java, and managing scalable resources using AWS.

What you will do...

  • Develop scalable web-services using Java
  • Seek ways to improve existing processes
  • Mine existing data for insights and recommends additional sources of data for improvements
  • Manage resources using Amazon Web Services and container technologies
  • Perform needed DevOps monitoring and tasks to ensure the performance and costs of several production stacks
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Data Analytics, and Data Science
  • Write useful tests for all code developed
  • Work in a collaborative Agile environment (SCRUM) and lead scrum ceremonies such as grooming, planning, daily stand up meetings

Who you are...

  • 7+ years related experience
  • Java and OOP skills with experience in Spring Boot
  • Development experience with REST, JSON, and Microservices
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases and performance tuning
  • Developed applications in public cloud preferably in AWS
  • Designed, configured, deployed and managed containerized cloud stacks
  • Understanding of software development processes, including SOLID principles, Agile methodologies and CI/CD
  • Work well independently and with others
