Ancestry is looking for a project-based temporary Content Prep
Specialist to work on a contract basis in Orem, UT. We ask that you are a
technical person with experience working with data entry, archival
documents, and goal oriented projects. You are efficient, show great care
for detail, and are accustomed to independent work in an environment that
handles focused and repetitive tasks. This is a full-time opportunity working
Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. You will report to the Domestic Remote Senior Imaging Manager. This is not a work-from-home position. This
position is contract-based and is not eligible for Ancestry benefits.
Compensation will be $17.50/hr.

What You’ll Do

  • Receive, inventory, organize, and track physical archival materials, digital assets, equipment, and hard drives using established tracking systems and barcodes.
  • Prepare physical and digital content for imaging and digitization workflows, ensuring materials are complete, organized, and ready for processing.
  • Capture high-quality digital images of historical records using various scanning equipment and software, in accordance with Ancestry’s technical specifications.
  • Perform quality audits on digitized content to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to quality standards prior to delivery or transmission.
  • Perform basic image enhancement, file organization, and metadata updates as required.
  • Track production progress, record quality findings, and maintain accurate documentation and data within spreadsheets or tracking systems.
  • Manage the secure preparation, shipment, transmission, and delivery of physical and digital content to internal teams and external partners, following chain-of-custody and security procedures.
  • Maintain organized storage locations and digital file structures for in-house content and hard drives to ensure traceability and security.
  • Perform routine maintenance on scanning equipment and scheduled maintenance on archived digital content, coordinating with third-party service providers as needed.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and security protocols at all times.
  • Identify, document, and escalate issues, inconsistencies, or process gaps to Leads, Senior Specialists, or Supervisors.
  • Collaborate with coordinators, team leads, and supervisors to ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Content Production Supervisor.
 

Who You Are

  • Experienced with digitization, scanning, or image-editing technology, including associated equipment, software, and archival handling procedures.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy.
  • Comfortable working independently in structured, repetitive, and goal-oriented environments.
  • Proactive in anticipating challenges and applying practical problem-solving skills.
  • Able to contribute effectively within a collaborative production team.
  • Background in Photography, Library & Information Science, Archival Studies, History, or a related field is strongly preferred.
