Ancestry is seeking a Spanish-speaking genealogist expert specializing in the Hispanophone world, especially in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Texas, and the American southwest and Pacific states, eager to contribute to the organization’s long-term success. The candidate will contribute to projects, conduct exemplary research and writing, start to finish, and must possess strong project and time management skills. Successful researchers in corporate genealogy are flexible, detail-oriented, strong in technology, and meet industry standards for genealogical research. They consistently meet performance metric requirements in a billable environment.
What you will do …
Conduct expert genealogical research in Hispanophone countries and communities, particularly in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Texas, New Mexico, and California.
Quickly assess resource accessibility by determining research feasibility, locating sources, and communicating promptly when research is not feasible.
Produce well-written research logs, reports, and regular client updates that align with company standards.
Conduct research on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing projects based on deadlines and company's or managers’ needs.
Utilize superior organizational skills to ensure sessions run smoothly, on time, and within budget.
Exercise sound judgment to ensure deliverables meet company, industry, and client quality standards, and maintain client satisfaction—even if project goals are not met.
Maintain an average of 6 billable hours per day and fulfill annual billable hour targets.
Provide and receive constructive feedback effectively.
Collaborate closely with Research Managers throughout each project to ensure project success.
Assist Research Managers in setting clear expectations with clients, updating clients every 4-6 weeks, and promptly addressing concerns or questions from clients and staff.
Who you are …
Research:
Speak, read, and write Spanish fluently; bonus if you are also fluent in Italian, French, or Portuguese, and are comfortable researching in those languages.
Bachelor’s or graduate degree in History, or comparable specialist accreditation or experience.
Expertise in Hispanophone countries and communities, primarily in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Texas, and California, and secondarily in Spain, the Canary Islands, Cuba, and elsewhere.
Proficient in applying DNA test results to solve genealogical research problems.
Advanced knowledge of online original and abstracted genealogical collections (e.g. Ancestry, FamilySearch, MyHeritage) and archives for onsite research, and advanced knowledge of research methodologies for the Hispanophone world.
Demonstrated experience with shifting penmanship styles and abbreviations across time and space since the early modern era.
Experienced in creating research logs/journals, citations, abstracts with analysis, writing narrative reports, writing research plans, and conducting research within budget.
Technology, project management, and communication skills:
Stellar time management skills, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Comfortable with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, and Sheets), Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and communication applications like Slack, Zoom, and Outlook.
Experienced in client communication, expectation setting, and conflict resolution.
Comfortable working collaboratively, providing feedback, and coaching colleagues.

As a signatory of the ParityPledge in Support of Women and the ParityPledge in Support of People of Color, Ancestry values pay transparency and pay equity. We are pleased to share the base salary range for this position: $51,410 - $64,260 with eligibility for bonus, equity and comprehensive benefits including health, dental and vision.
